Summer Camps 2020

Come sing, dance, and play at Berkeley Playhouse’s award-winning summer program!

Read on for information on our K-9th grade summer camps. (Grades for summer are based on the grade students will be entering in Fall 2020.)

PLEASE NOTE:
This summer, not all camps will have a final presentation for family and friends. Please consider this when choosing the length of the camp in which you enroll. Our one-week camps will culminate in final-day sharings with costumes and props, performed only for other campers onsite. If a final presentation open to family and friends is a priority to you, please consider a two- or three-week camp. Our two- and three-week camps will culminate in final-day sharings, beginning between 2-3pm, to which friends and family are invited.

Satellite Location: Some camps are held at School of the Madeleine, 1225 Milvia Street Berkeley, CA 94709. The entrance and parking lot are on Berryman Street. The location of each camp is listed in the description during the enrollment process, and you will receive additional confirmation on the location after enrolling.

Theme-Based Camps:

Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone

Join Harry, Ron, and Hermione back where it all began: their first year at Hogwarts! Campers will act, sing, and dance in this magical story of friendship and epic adventures based on the first book in the Harry Potter series.

Frozen

Elsa, Anna, Olaf, and many more characters are waiting for you in Arendelle! Campers will sing, dance, and act in this musical theater camp based on the story of Frozen and Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Snow Queen.”

Newsies

Sing and dance with the newsies of New York City as they band together for their rights in this week-long camp inspired by the musical Newsies.

The Jungle Book

The jungle is jumpin' with colorful characters like Mowgli, Baloo, King Louie, Bagheera, and more! Campers will sing, dance, and act in this musical theater camp based on "The Jungle Book".

Skill-Based Camps:

Triple Threat

A performer with acting, singing, and dancing chops is considered a “triple threat” in musical theater, and this one-week camp will train all three intensively! An awesome opportunity for beginners and seasoned performers alike to hone their technique, receive feedback, and grow!

Dates/Grade-Level

We have new options at the start of most weeks from June-August for grade levels K-9. To filter by grade or month, there's a "Category" sidebar on the right (on some screens and on mobile devices: scroll to bottom of the page for Category list).

Grades for summer are based on the grade students will be entering in Fall 2020.

Before-Care/After-Care

Berkeley Playhouse offers limited additional care before and after camp at both our Julia Morgan site and School of the Madeleine site.

During these hours of extended supervision, campers play games, work on craft projects, and have time to read, chat, and (whenever possible) play outside under the care of one of our teaching artists or assistants. On Thursdays, we often show a movie in the after-care room in addition to these options. Please note that before- and after-care hours are separate from the camp day and may not include theater-specific curriculum.

Out of respect for our staff, please be timely when picking up from after-care. A late fee of $20 for every 10 minutes or fraction thereof will be added to the cost of after-care. We never offer after-care on Friday afternoons!

Before-Care runs from 8:00am – 9:00am, Monday-Friday.
After-Care runs from 3:00pm – 6:00*pm, Monday-Thursday.
Please note that there is no After-Care on Fridays.

You can purchase the full week of Before-Care and/or After-Care online at the time of checkout. A $20 discount for after-care applies if you register online for the full week before camp begins. If you do not need the full week of care, or if you need to add it after camp begins, you may pay in-person with cash, check, or credit card at camp drop-off and pick-up. Please note that no refunds will be given for unattended before-care or after-care sessions.

*At checkout, you will be offered two options for After-Care: 3pm-5pm and 3pm-6pm. Please note: If you plan on picking your child up between 5pm-6pm, please select the 3pm-6pm option, though you may also pay the additional $10/day in person if you are unable to arrive before 5pm.

Rising Grades

Grades for summer are based on the grade students will be entering in Fall 2020.

Why can I only purchase one class at a time?

Because we need to collect registration information specific for each of our students, you can only add one class to your basket at a time. Once you complete the order and your basket is empty, you will be able to purchase a spot in a different class for your additional student(s). If available, After-care and Before-care are available as add-on options after you select a camp.
