Summer Camps 2019
Come sing, dance, and play at Berkeley Playhouse’s award-winning summer program!
Read on for information on our K-9th grade summer camps. (Grades for summer are based on the grade students will be entering in Fall 2019.)
Choosing a Camp
ThemesAll camps are focused on musical theater and combine drama games, technique exercises, and rehearsal/performance experience.
Join the Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, and more of Dr. Seuss’s fantastical creatures for a magical musical about the importance of friendship, loyalty, and community.
When a rockstar-wannabe rallies a prep school class into the band of his dreams, hilarity ensues in this rollicking musical based on the hit film.
Skill-Based Camps:A Cappella Camp: Singers will hone their vocal chops in this one-week singing camp, culminating in an a cappella concert of pop and musical theater songs! Campers will learn about healthy voice technique and some basic music theory as they form their own a cappella group.
Triple Threat Camp: Musical theater performers will improve their acting, singing, and dancing technique in this intensive class culminating in a cabaret-style performance showcasing their skills. This is an awesome opportunity for beginners and seasoned performers alike to receive feedback and grow.
Cheer Dance Camp: This camp will explore the intersection of dance and cheerleading in musicals featuring cheer! Students will sing, dance, and cheer in numbers inspired by shows like “Bring it On,” “Grease,” “High School Musical,” and many more. This camp culminates in an exciting final performance on the last day of camp.

During these hours of extended supervision, campers play games, work on craft projects, and have time to read, chat, and (whenever possible) play outside under the care of one of our teaching artists or assistants. On Thursdays, we often show a movie in the after-care room in addition to these options. Please note that before- and after-care hours are separate from the camp day and may not include theater-specific curriculum.
Out of respect for our staff, please be timely when picking up from after-care. A late fee of $20 for every 10 minutes or fraction thereof will be added to the cost of after-care. We never offer after-care on Friday afternoons!
Before-Care runs from 8:00am – 9:00am, Monday-Friday.
After-Care runs from 3:00pm – 6:00*pm, Monday-Thursday.
Please note that there is no After-Care on Fridays.
You can purchase the full week of Before-Care and/or After-Care online at the time of checkout. A $20 discount for after-care applies if you register online for the full week before camp begins. If you do not need the full week of care, or if you need to add it after camp begins, you may pay in-person with cash, check, or credit card at camp drop-off and pick-up. Please note that no refunds will be given for unattended before-care or after-care sessions.
*At checkout, you will be offered two options for After-Care: 3pm-5pm and 3pm-6pm. Please note: If you plan on picking your child up between 5pm-6pm, please select the 3pm-6pm option, though you may also pay the additional $10/day in person if you are unable to arrive before 5pm.
Some camps are held at School of the Madeleine, 1225 Milvia Street Berkeley, CA 94709. The entrance and parking lot are on Berryman Street. The location of each camp is listed in the description during the enrollment process, and you will receive additional confirmation on the location after enrolling.
