Summer Camp

Come sing, dance, and play at Berkeley Playhouse’s award-winning summer program! Read on for information on our K-9th grade summer camps. (Grades for summer are based on the grade students will be entering in Fall 2018.)

Wait Lists

Many of our camps are currently sold out, but we have wait lists for all of them!

If you would like to place your child on a wait list, please email education@berkeleyplayhouse.org. Please include the name and dates of the camp(s), your child's name and grade in the Fall, and the best way to contact you.

Choosing a Camp (Know the drill? Jump to enrollment )

This summer, choose from 4 camp themes inspired by popular titles, plus skill-building classes including A Cappella camp and Triple Threat (acting, singing, and dancing)! All camps are focused on musical theater and combine drama games, technique exercises, and rehearsal/performance experience.
The Lion King
Join Simba, Nala, Pumbaa, and Timon as they save the Pridelands from the evil Scar! Campers will act, sing, and dance as they put together a performance based on the Disney movie and Broadway musical.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Back by popular demand, it’s the fourth book in the Harry Potter series! Harry’s friends band together to help him compete in the Triwizard Tournament, but danger emerges around every corner. This musical theater camp will bring JK Rowling’s beloved witches and wizards to life!

Bye Bye Birdie
Join us for some 1960s rock and roll and screaming teenage fans! When a local teen wins a date with famous rockstar Conrad Birdie, a small town goes wild in preparation for his visit and madness ensues in this fun, vibrant musical.
Mary Poppins
When the iconic nanny arrives by umbrella at number 17 Cherry Tree Lane, the Banks family and the local chimney sweep association find their lives becoming much more magical. It’s sure to be practically perfect in every way!

A Cappella Camp:  Singers will hone their vocal chops in this one-week singing camp, culminating in an a cappella concert of pop and musical theater songs! Campers will learn about healthy voice technique and some basic music theory as they form their own a cappella group.

Triple Threat Camp: Musical theater performers will improve their acting, singing, and dancing technique in this intensive class culminating in a cabaret-style performance showcasing their skills. This is an awesome opportunity for beginners and seasoned performers alike to receive feedback and grow.

Berkeley Playhouse offers limited additional care before and after summer camps only at both our Julia Morgan site and School of the Madeleine site.

During these hours of extended supervision, campers play games, work on craft projects, and have time to read, chat, and (whenever possible) play outside under the care of one of our teaching artists or assistants. On Thursdays, we often show a movie in the after-care room in addition to these options. Please note that before- and after-care hours are separate from the camp day and may not include theater-specific curriculum.

Out of respect for our staff, please be timely when picking up from after-care. A late fee of $20 for every 10 minutes or fraction thereof will be added to the cost of after-care. We never offer after-care on Friday afternoons!

Before Care runs from 8:00am – 9:00am, Monday-Friday.
After Care runs from 3:00pm – 5:00pm, Monday-Thursday.
Please note that there is no After Care on Fridays.

You can purchase Before and After Care online at the time of checkout for the full week, or in person with cash, check, or credit card at camp drop-off and pick-up. If purchasing in person, you can opt to add it day-by-day or for the full week.

Satellite Location: Some camps are held at School of the Madeleine, 1225 Milvia Street Berkeley, CA 94709. The entrance and parking lot are on Berryman Street. The location of each camp is listed in the description during the enrollment process, and you will receive additional confirmation on the location after enrolling.

Rising Grades

Grades for summer are based on the grade students will be entering in Fall 2018.

Why can I only purchase one class at a time?

Because we need to collect registration information specific for each of our students, you can only add one class to your basket at a time. Once you complete the order and your basket is empty, you will be able to purchase a spot in a different class for your additional student(s). After-care and Before-care are available as add-on options after you select a camp.
