The Story
Little Shop of Horrors centers around Seymour Krelborn, a meek florist's assistant working at Mushnik's, a flower shop in urban Skid Row. Seymour is constantly berated by his boss Mr. Mushnik, a greedy business-owner who takes advantage of Seymour's kindness.
Seymour has a long-time crush on his coworker Audrey, a sweet girl who wishes to be anywhere besides her current town and to have a life with someone who actually loves her. Audrey's boyfriend is the sadistic dentist Dr. Orin Scrivello, an abusive man to Audrey and with whom Seymour holds a grudge.
Then there are Crystal, Ronnette, and Chiffon—street urchins of Skid Row who act as the occasional Greek Chorus, narrating throughout the musical. They are hip and savvy and remain the only ones who have a grip on reality.
One day, Seymour comes across a new mysterious plant, which he names Audrey II, after his crush. The plant seems to have a craving for blood and soon begins to sing for his supper. Soon enough, Audrey II's cravings become even more demanding and Seymour finds himself willing to feed anyone to the carnivorous plant.
It quickly becomes apparent to Seymour and Audrey that this "mean green mother" seeks world domination. Will Audrey II take over life as we know it or will Seymour and Audrey defeat it once and for all?
