The Julia Morgan Project
Musical proposals due July 5!
Berkeley Playhouse is thrilled to announce a project to promote new musical works, connect with our talented community that we’ve missed so much, and honor Julia Morgan, the inspiring architect who designed our building.
We will be offering five paid commissions for 5-10 minute mini-musicals, inspired by the life and/or works of Julia Morgan. Each 5-10 minute stage musical must include original music or lyrics. Let your imagination lead the way!
One project will be chosen for a fully-produced staged reading of the mini-musical that will culminate in a showing at our fall fundraiser.
🎭 HOW IT WORKS:
Five project proposals will receive a total of $500 for the playwright and/or composer/lyricist to write a script 5-10 minutes long. These five scripts will be celebrated and shared with our season pass holder community along with a bio of the writer(s). The playwright whose script is chosen for production will work with the BP team as they cast and produce the mini-musical for the stage on the night of our fall gala in October.
✍ HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
To submit a proposal, simply write up a short paragraph outlining your idea, as well as a short bio about you or your creative work.
Proposal submissions are due no later than Monday, July 5 . Please email your proposal to [email protected] with the subject line "Julia Morgan Project."
We will contact you by mid-July whether or not your proposal has been selected, and you may then begin writing your script, music, and lyrics. Break a leg!
👉 Know a Fierce Female? 💪
We are seeking (at least) five fierce female philanthropists to underwrite the Julia Morgan Project. You will be honoring Julia Morgan, theater artists, and the whole community by stepping up to become a producing sponsor. We also plan on honoring our five sponsors at our fall gala event, on our website, and on social media.
If you know someone who would be an excellent sponsor, please have them email [email protected] with the subject line "Julia Morgan Project Sponsor."
